Top 5 Travel Tips

If there’s one thing to know about us, it’s that we LOVE traveling. We may be a bit of a hot mess (Great Barrier Reef cruise, anyone?!) but we make it work. Of course, there are hundreds of tips out there on how to fly with family and friends, what to bring camping, which suitcase works best, and so much more.

We’ve been lucky enough to see many awesome places and make amazing memories, learning a little about travel along the way! While our list of things to do (and not to do – #discovercard) could go on and on, we’ve narrowed it down into our all-time top 5 travel tips. Hope these help on your next travels, whether it’s over state lines or around the world!

Always Read Your Airline Confirmation Email

Ouch…it sounds obvious but someone learned the hard way. Let’s just say it’s not casual arriving to the airport on your way home just to find out the budget airline has you booked to fly one week later. I swear the dates were right on the checkout screen when buying the weekend trip but the confirmation email didn’t come through…and the customer service was not ideal. Big whoops! It can be so easy to click quick and move on to the next thing, but always double check so you can avoid big change fees and add-ons later (it was a one time issue, I swear).

Check Your Currency

Just ask Katie about paying for things in foreign countries. She’ll give you more than you bargained for – haha! No, in all seriousness if you are traveling internationally, please don’t automatically assume all your credit cards will work. A little bit of research before you go can save you a big headache. For example, Discover cards are not widely accepted in Australia. In fact, it’s pretty tough to find a place that will take Discover cards at all down under – according to local businesses, the fees are too high. That’s why a mix of Visa or Mastercard and paper money is your best bet!

Wear Comfy Clothes

If you’ve ever seen us in an airport, then you know we take comfort seriously (and by seriously we mean Rach isn’t afraid to rock up to the international terminal in sausage dog pajama pants). No shame in airport style game, am I right? We’d love to be super stylish cute travelers, but at the end of the day you never know what’s going to happen (like booking your connecting flight to the wrong airport….) so it’s better to be comfy no matter what. Also, don’t forget that spare tank top in your carry on bag for when all the airport hot flashes become too much.

Bring Snacks

We love Domino’s first and foremost – but if we can’t get pizza, chocolate and chips will do. Hangry and travel don’t mix, so you can always count on us to have some snacks readily available. You deserve to enjoy your travel and make the most of every trip, so splurge a little on your favorite snacks and you’ll have more energy to keep up with whatever your day has in store. Let’s not forget the time we were supposed to fly in from different cities to meet up in San Fran, only for Rach’s flight to be delayed 18 times and Katie waited until 3 in the morning. Snacks definitely saved the day!

Be Open

Lastly, we can’t say enough good things about being open to all the travel opportunities that come your way. Even if you’ve been somewhere before, why not go again? Each trip will be a new adventure and you’ll never have the same exact experience twice. I mean look at us – we’ve been to Yarra Valley a time or two and we keep going back – you cannot keep us away! Of course, if you haven’t been somewhere yet – life is too short. Make the most of it while you can and don’t be afraid to try new things.
